The SHORE LINE Published by The Town of Pine Knoll Shores In The Interests Of Its Citizens Town Hall: 247-4353 Emergency Phones: Police: 728-3772 F1re & Rescue: 728-4111 VOLUME VIII - Number 9 September 1987 Mary Korff - Editor PUBLIC HEARING Prior to the regular commissioners' meeting a hearing was held concerning the pro posed ordinance limiting the hours when construction work could be carried on in the town. There seemed to be general opposition to the proposal on the part of private citizens as well as the builders. As written it would not allow working home owners to work on their own homes after work hours or on weekends. Builders have the problem with time limits on their contracts and contracts with sub-contractors who cannot stop in the middle of a job - like roofing when rain is threatening, etc. It was also suggested that such an ordinance would be difficult, if not impossible, to enforce. It is the heavy equipment used early in the morning or late in the evening which is most offensive, but there is no effective way to measure noise or to limit some forms of construction activity while allowing others. The Commissioners will consider all these points before any action is taken. COMMISSIONERS MEETING From commissioners' reports we learned that tax bills have gone out [as if we did ' not know]! In some cases a supplemental bill had to be sent because of a change in State tax regulations concerning what constitutes taxable items. Commissioner Libby reported on Planning Board activity and the Building Inspector's i report. Three residential permits and two miscellaneous permits were issued, and three certificates of occupancy. Commissioner Shedd reported on mosquito control, reinforcement of right-of-ways and sign replacement. He also presented for approval the 20% funding required for the mandated inspection of bridges in the town. This was passed. Rescue calls were down from last month. There were only twelve runs, five of which were transports. The Rescue Squad has also welcomed Jack Gibson as a new member of the Squad. A procedure for handling attended and unattended death was adopted. The new ambulance has been ordered and delivery is expected within three weeks. Commissioner White reported 201 police calls and 2 fire calls. There were also 32 more snakes destroyed. [They weren't all killed by the police. Rex Johnson got a big one to add to the tally]. Officers completed 48 hours of training during the month TOWN OF PINE KNOLL SHORES. N.C. Route 3 - Pine Knoll Blvd. Pine Knoll Shores-MHC» N.
